Tulimara herbal teas are purchased directly from SAFIRE trained producer groups around Zimbabwe.  Rural producers have been trained in sustainable harvesting to ensure that there is a constant supply of the raw material.  Harvesting of the raw materials has provided rural producers with an important and regular alternative source of income and has encouraged them to protect their indigenous resources.

Our herbal tea's can be purchased as tea bags or as loose tea.  Prices on request.

Makoni Herbal Tea

Makoni Herbal Tea is caffeine free and rich in immune-boosting zinc. It is produced from a wild bush (Fadogia ancylantha) that grows mostly in the Eastern Highlands area of Zimbabwe.

The tea is harvested sustainably and processed in partnership with the Indigenous Tea Producers Association who are based in Nyanga district. More than 300 rural producers in the Nyanga area benefit directly from the production of Tulimara's Makoni Herbal Tea.

The Makoni herb is a perennial plant, which lies dormant between July and October. New leaves and branches appear when the rains begin around October-November. The leaves turn yellow and then brown between April and July. The plant grows to a height of around 1 metre. The tea is said to be mature and ready when the leaves and the stem turn yellow.  The branches are then cut and the leaves fermented by sprinkling some water onto the leaves and putting them into a plastic bag until the leaves turn brown. They are left to dry and are then ready for consumption.

From the 2005 season the Indigenous Tea Producers Association will be responsible for crushing and sorting the tea.  This will enable them to add value to the tea and to make more money from it.

Tulimara's Makoni Herbal Tea comes in two flavours.  Natural Flavour (100% Makoni Tea) and Natural Lemon Flavour (dried lemon powder blended with Makoni Tea).
